It arouse in the depth of the Central Asian society on the basis of a harmonious combination of a rich spiritual heritage and as realization of its place in realities of that time and the necessity of its reforming for successful prosperity in the future. Now, there appears the possibility of restoring the historical truth in the conditions of profound changes in the historical science. The need for resolute revision of former aims about role and place in historical process of national-progressive movement has ripened as the unique social and political phenomenon in the early 20 th century. This phenomenon promoted a national consciousness growth and is of the essence in formation and development of national-liberation ideology, in struggle for independence. At the beginning of the XIX century, the Jadid movement, which began in the form of education in Turkestan, began to express its attitude to the socio-economic and political processes in the region in the early 20th century. This article outlines the activities of the Jadid movement in its own press and the study of the Jadidian historiography during the Soviet era and independence years. This study examines the history of the Jadid movement starting from socio-cultural conditions to the emergence of the jadid movement in Central Asia between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century. In order to reach the conclusion about the Jadid movement that it has been formed as the religious-cultural and anti-colonial movement against the Soviet regime, this paper analyses the contest between the traditional Islam scholars and reform-minded intellectuals on the reform ideas.
